A watchdog is a dog that is trained to alert its owner to the presence of intruders or potential threats, but does not necessarily engage with the threat physically. On the other hand, a guard dog is trained to not only alert its owner to potential threats, but also to physically protect the property or people it is guarding. The main difference between the two is that a guard dog is trained to take action against a threat, while a watchdog is trained to simply alert its owner. **
